Boulangerie Malineau - Paris

Checking Out the Checkerboard Cookies
My feet keep taking me by this boulangerie time and again. They could be telling me something.

Sacha Finkelsztajn - Paris

Cheesecake on Rue de Rosiers
As I have explained in previous posts, I am a cheesecake expert. I say that with a sly smile - what it means, really, is that I make one that I think is tops. My girlfriend agrees with me (I think) but she is biased, clearly. Anyway, I'm particular about cheesecake - I prefer the heavy over the light, the sweet over the bland, the slow-bake over the pour-and-chill. Throw in a graham cracker crust while you're at it. I've been to Berko - their version is super-light but it's pretty good. Someone commented on the Berko post that I should try the version at Sacha Finkelsztajn, so off I went. When I walked in, I got a good vibe. The place was buzzing and everything looked really, really good.

Cupcake & Co - Paris

The Jury is Still Out on This One...
First of all, why do I keep going to cupcake spots in Paris? I mean, it is kinda stupid really. Do you go to Tokyo to get a cheeseburger? Oh yeah, I just remembered, I had the best cheeseburger of my life in Tokyo...... Anyway, I got a comment on my Berko Bakery post to try out Cupcake and Co. so off I went. It is a tiny, bright, welcoming place with a friendly patron who walked me through every cupcake she had on offer. She assured me that all were freshly baked each morning.

Pralus - Paris

Return of the New Discovery
Rue Rambuteau is the dividing line between the 3rd and 4th Arondissements in Paris. It is absolutely loaded with food shops, cafes and restaurants. I find myself going back there quite often and recently visited Pralus, which is known for its chocolate.

Chip Shop - Brooklyn

Shaving Years off the End of Life
What better way to combat my incessant sweet tooth than with a plate full of deep-fried chicken and taters? Just another path towards reducing my life expectancy, as I see it, and what a path it is! This spot is an English pub experience boiled down to its essence. I guess I should have ordered the fish and chips, but the chicken and chips were calling out to me.

Five Guys - Brooklyn

Cajun Fries Cure the Blues
Came out the subway after work feeling kinda down, kinda enervated. Remembered there was a Five Guys a few footsteps away and slowly made my way over.

The Victory - Brooklyn

The Definition of a Beloved Local Spot
If I had any kind of readership at all, I wouldn't publicize this cafe. I would selfishly keep it a secret. It's a tiny silver dot on the corner of Hoyt and State in Brooklyn that serves coffee/bagels/sandwiches and empanadas. The owner is perhaps the warmest person I've met in Brooklyn, after a few visits he will greet you by name and make you feel at home.

Lei Gardens - Singapore

Cantonese in Singapore
I am on vacation in Singapore with my beautiful Puffin. She is calling the shots food-wise and I'm just following her around like a duckling. I could file a glowing story for each meal, the food here is so varied and delicious. However, since I am on vacation, this one post will have to do. Did I mention that I am the only one on vacation? Someone else has to work during meals. Either that or I am boring - I am not sure which.
